In just one week, the one from Barranquilla has been in no less than three different countries: leaving her busy social life in the United States to take her children to Spain with her father, Gerard Piqué; and then heading to Colombia to be with her father, William Mebarak, who was undergoing another operation.
The singer accompanied her father in an operation for hydrocephalus, with which a valve was installed to try to stop the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain he suffers from. An operation that was carried out at the prestigious Serena del Mar clinic and was directed by the renowned neurosurgeon, Fernando Hakim, creator of the valve that the father of the Acrostic interpreter installed in her brain.
A surgical operation necessary to stop the accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain that Mebarak suffers from, and that would be exerting harmful pressure on it. Apparently, according to local media, the operation would have been a success.
This was how Shakira herself seemed to confirm it with two messages through her Instagram Stories, where she took the opportunity to say goodbye to her homeland, thanking Dr. Hakim, his team and the hospital.
The one from Barranquilla went to the hospital in Cartagena de Indias with her father and accompanied by her inseparable brother Tonino. This new operation will be crucial for the father of both to improve factors such as his coordination, vision or balance.
A hospital where the Mebarak patriarch had been for a few weeks and with which the family would have apparently signed a confidentiality contract to safeguard their privacy. Proof of this would have been the discretion with which the visit of his grandchildren, Milan and Sasha, would have been treated at the end of last May, which went completely unnoticed.
The state of health of the artist's father continues to be very delicate, and this was precisely one of the reasons that motivated the singer to leave Barcelona. Seeking the best medical care for William Mebarak became a priority, especially after he suffered a fall at his daughter's house in Barcelona in May 2022. Shakira's father also suffered severe head trauma at consequence of that fall.
