Social networks like Twitter often become the dumping ground for hate. We have been observing for some time how the so-called trolls make offensive, disrespectful comments, and even death threats against certain people, mainly celebrities, for the mere fact of not agreeing with their opinion or for simply practicing their profession.
A situation that a GolTV reporter, María Morán, has experienced in the last few hours, and that she has not hesitated to denounce not only publicly but also before the National Police. As the sports journalist explains, it all began with the question she asked Carlos Ancelotti about Vinícius. From there, he began to receive insults and serious death threats.
"Do you think that Vinícius could use a red card as a lesson for those continuous protests to the referees?" This is the question that María Morán asked Carlo Ancelotti, the Real Madrid coach, before the match against Real Sociedad about one of the most controversial Merengue strikers due to his behavior on the pitch.
The Italian, with a smile, answered the GolTV journalist with a: “A red one? No, he doesn't need a red. It only lacks a red one too. With all the yellow cards he has had, I think it's enough”. However, this question was not well received by Real Madrid fans, who did not hesitate to charge the reporter hard.
Such have been the insults and very serious threats received in the last hours, that Morán did not hesitate to inform the National Police of what happened, in addition to publicly denouncing on his Twitter account all the rudeness, attacks and insults towards him for the mere fact of exercising his work as a journalist.
"That they rape me, that my daughter is a bastard, insults towards a baby... EVERYTHING is reported to the National Police," published the sports reporter, attaching a screenshot of one of those despicable comments.
Faced with these serious threats and insults, sports journalism has turned to the journalist, dedicating a multitude of messages of affection and support to her in these difficult moments. Among them, her own channel GolTV, fellow journalists from other channels and media, or soccer clubs, among others.
"You confuse our work with your forofism," Jessica Figueroa wrote while imploring "not everything goes" and "cowards behind a screen." Another of the messages of support was from Ricardo Rosety: “What disgusting comments. This should not be accepted under any circumstances. Or that of Irene Junquera herself: “And it happens so much that it seems that it is normal. How awful".
"We can't keep quiet," asked another RTVE colleague, Lara Gandarillas, in solidarity with Morán. Or Marc Mata, who hoped that what happened would not influence his work. Even the press officer of Leganés, Uxue Caballero, described the events as "vomiting" and sent "much encouragement" to the journalist.
And so, dozens of positive comments in support of María Morán in the face of an event that should never happen again.
