Since then, the actor has been slowly recovering from this serious medical setback that he suffered almost two years ago, which forced him to stay away from fiction. About the state of health of his partner, Luis Merlo spoke in the presentation of the season. The performer has shared the stage with Gil for more than 22 years and that is why he could not help but get emotional when the press asked him about him.
''It is a very painful issue because he has been a colleague for many years, we have been working for 22 years, I am in contact with the family and through a great friend of his and mine we are in permanent contact,'' he confessed very emotionally.
''I wish him a recovery and that he becomes José Luis Gil again. Because it is wonderful to be Luis and then Luis Merlo. Merlo is an invention, I don't even have that name. It is an invention that has generated my imagination by having a career. José Luis in life is José Luis and then he is José Luis Gil, the actor who plays... There is a huge difference between those two things. I know that he needs to be José Luis Gil and I want him to get it as soon as possible,' he assured.
