Laura Martín, co-star of 'Death Café: the Music of Your Life', dies

Laura Martín, co-star of the documentary Death Café: the Music of your Life, has lost the battle against metastatic cancer and died this Saturday at the age of 37. The young woman, who was born in Talavera de la Reina, but lived in Badajoz, was dedicated to the world of psychology.

Laura had a very particular way of approaching life. Just three months ago, at the presentation of the documentary, she said: "it is very difficult to accept that you can die at 36 years old, but acceptance also gives you a certain peace of mind."

There have been many who have mourned Laura's death, especially her partner and musician Pedro Monty. "Her life and the way she faced the disease by accepting it have been an example for many people," he said. He also praised her generosity and bravery and her ability to express her emotions and feelings.

Precisely this ability to communicate was what led her to star in the short film Death Café: the Music of your Life, produced by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, Badajoz Ciudad Compasiva and Músicos sin Fronteras and directed by Alejandro Huyro.

In this 24-minute film, the director shows us the personal experiences of Laura and another oncology patient, Raquel Godoy. They both met at a Death Café – a meeting where they can talk without taboos about illness and death – and decided to share their story with the world.

As Montoy has said, the young woman's "sincere and authentic" message has resonated with all those who have seen the documentary, generating "a profound change in the meaning of pain, suffering and death, and the role that music performs.”
