La Cerdanya hosts a spectacular snow wedding

The Cerdanya region experienced a practically unprecedented event last Saturday, December 16. For months, a couple between 25 and 30 years old, Carla and Asier, had decided to celebrate a wedding different from the rest.

At first, they thought of something related to cycling, one of their great passions. But they finally opted for their other great love: snow.

Both protagonists had prepared a festive day that went far beyond a traditional wedding. To achieve this, together with their Wedding Planner, they opted for a completely white setting. Their passion for snow, and especially for skiing, gave them the final push to accept an innovative proposal.

Although, at the moment, this winter is not being generous at all with precipitation in the form of snow, they were able to experience first-hand what they had dreamed of. After the cold and wind of the last few days, the sky opened completely, giving way to a December sun capable of warming and illuminating that special mountain setting for hours.

“Carla and Asier asked us for the wedding to be an original experience,” explains Clàudia Lambies, creator of Emocions de Blanc and the couple's Wedding Planner. "We've been preparing for that day for more than a year, and the result couldn't have been better," she adds.

The place chosen was the Porté-Puymorens station, a cozy winter sports center located a few kilometers from Puigcerdà. The reception from the station staff was fantastic. Between smiles and knowing looks, they helped the couple get on the ski lifts. Some of the people in charge of the station even came up to congratulate them.

During the day, the bride and groom were the center of attention of many skiers. Some congratulated them from the chairlift, others hit their poles when they passed by them, and even asked them for a photo. Without a doubt, that surprised many people, beyond the guests.

The most notable moment was the ceremony, in a more secluded and quiet space, to be able to say “I do” without the presence of the most curious people. Under the watchful eye of the mountains, the wedding was marked with some film snapshots, captured by a photographer specialized in mountains and snow, Ferran Font.

At noon, after several descents, it was time to go to the restaurant. And although it may seem that skiing in this clothing is uncomfortable, this was not the case. Toni Barceló prepared a custom suit for Asier, while Laura Vila Atelier designed a dress with different layers for Carla, in order to withstand the low temperatures and be able to move with total freedom.

From there, the party continued, in a more traditional way. Absolutely everyone present left with a feeling of excitement, after having accompanied the couple on a morning like that.

“We are working to land snow weddings in the Pyrenees. In other countries of the world they are a very common option, while in our country this possibility is barely known. We must learn to enjoy the snow in a new way, valuing the magic it gives off,” says Clàudia.

Both Cerdanya and the rest of the Pyrenean regions are prepared to host this type of events. Beyond the scenic charm, the gastronomic offer with local products is also another great attraction. This has only been the first step to bring winter weddings closer to our territory, and given the reception, they will surely become an alternative to take into account.

At the same time, from Emocions de Blanc, they are already beginning to imagine a wedding in a cycling setting. “We have a lot of ideas in our heads. Now we just have to wait for the right opportunity,” says Clàudia. I'm sure we'll see it sooner rather than later.
