How to clean the air conditioning filter

Few sensations are as pleasant as arriving home, after a day of work and having to deal with the stifling summer heat, and turning on the air conditioning. The soft refreshing breeze reaches every corner of the house and it already seems that one sees life in a different way. There is no doubt that this is the great advantage of having one of these devices at home. However, in addition to the benefits, this also brings with it a number of responsibilities. One of them is to carry out periodic maintenance so that it works optimally and lasts as long as possible in good conditions. And one of the most important steps is to clean the air conditioning filter.

This constitutes a removable part within the interior structure of an air conditioner. Its function is to trap all the particles, bacteria and dirt that is floating in the air of the room. In this way, the air quality will be better. As long as this piece is cleaned periodically. Since, little by little, all that waste that nobody wants to have hanging around the house will be concentrated in it.

Cleaning the air conditioning filter is a very simple task and, as a general rule, it will suffice to do it once or twice a year. However, the process will vary depending on whether it is a standard air conditioner, a split type, or one installed through ducts.

In the case of standard air conditioning, all you have to do is disconnect the device by unplugging it, open its front cover and remove the filters, which are usually one or two resin grids or other similar material. If you have a lot of dust or it is deeply encrusted, it is best to choose to vacuum it. If not, you can move on to the next step, which is to soak them in warm water with vinegar or a mild soap. Once they are clean, make sure they are completely dry before you put them back in place.

For ducted air conditioning units, you have to spend a little more time. The first thing is to locate the filters and remove them, for this you must follow the instructions in the technical manual of the device. Once found, they are carefully extracted, so that the dust does not fall. At this point it is necessary to differentiate the material of the filters, since the nylon ones cannot be washed, they must be discarded and replaced with new ones. If they are not nylon, they are vacuumed and cleaned with a cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol, carefully and without excessive pressure. When they are completely dry, they can be put back in place.
