Barcelona has abandoned the race to host the next edition of Junior Eurovision. Let us remember that the mayor of the city, Jaume Collboni, already offered the Catalan capital as soon as he knew that the next edition of the children's contest would be in Spain after learning that France, the last winner of the festival thanks to the victory of Zoe Clauzure with her song Coeur, I had given up organizing it.
Despite the initial offer, municipal sources have confirmed to RAC1 that the City Council has finally given up on the attempt to host the festival due to the lack of available equipment and logistics. Spaces such as the Palau Sant Jordi or the Sant Jordi Club itself, the only ones capable of celebrating an event of these characteristics, would be reserved for the dates needed by the organization, in the month of November.
RAC1 has also learned that Collboni's interest had even led to exploring the possibility of doing it in one of the pavilions of the Barcelona Fair, in Montjuïc, but elements such as the columns or the height of the ceilings made it very difficult to organize the festival. .
Last year, the children's edition of Eurovision was held at the Palais Nikaïa in Nice (France), in a multipurpose hall of more than 9,500 m² that has a capacity of 9,000 spectators. In addition, the contest requires the space to be available for approximately one month, to be able to condition it, do the rehearsals and the competition.
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) would have to announce the final Spanish city imminently. In fact, at this point, in 2023 we already had the place and the date of the contest. Apart from Barcelona, Valencia and Malaga had also been offered, but Madrid is not ruled out either.
