Alessandro Lequio saved Ana Obregón from suicide

There are many who suspected that Ana Obregón wanted to take her own life when her son Aless Lequio died on May 13, 2020, a victim of cancer. Now, the actress has decided to put an end to the rumors, explaining in the epilogue of the book The Boy with the Shrews her suicide attempt and what happened so that she finally decided to take a step back that connected her with life instead of taking it towards ahead, towards a fateful void.

The night of her death, the artist took refuge with her sisters and Alessandro Lequio in the apartment she had rented in Barcelona, the city where Aless received treatment. Obregón relates that she went out onto a seventh-floor balcony with a very clear idea. "I had everything planned to the millimeter for twenty-four hours. Actually, I planned it the day I was a mother. If my son died before me, I would not suffer for a second: I would go with him," she writes.

He details how he leaned over the railing of his room, where he had locked himself. "I lifted one leg, passing it to the other side," she continues. "I used inordinate force with my arms that would not stop trembling and, even so, I had to hurry so that my sisters and Alessandro, who were crying in the living room, would not notice my absence."

However, his son's father was not oblivious to his intentions, since as he also comments in the book, "I was worried because one night I confessed to him that if something happened to our son I would not suffer for a minute, I would leave with the". The aristocrat knocked on the door of the room where Obregón was trying to take his own life. He yelled out her name several times asking her to open up. At the end, he exclaimed: "Ana, for God's sake, open the door. You have something important to do. Do you remember what Aless asked us, his last will?"

According to the presenter, this phrase was decisive for her to decide to back down with the intention of making her son's request come true. "I tried to compose myself, slowly moving my dangling leg back onto the balcony floor, and trembled into the room."

He also explains that he did not reveal this episode to Lequio, either at that moment or later. "Your father never knew that, at that moment, your last will saved my life. He will find out by reading these pages."

After recounting her attempt to end her life, the businesswoman and biologist adds: "I want to make it clear that suicide is never an option, not even in the worst tragedies you can experience. It is cowardly."

And what is that last will? Obviously, that of being a father. "That miracle has come true," he writes before specifying that the girl will be called Ana Sandra. "It will be the unique miracle never told, the fruit of the infinite love of a mother and a son."
