Given the growing prominence of sustainable awareness and the need to reduce carbon emissions, car manufacturers are in full race to create vehicles that are more respectful of our planet. Plug-in hybrid and electric car launches are more common than ever and this wave of electrification has opened new horizons in almost all mobility segments.
However, electric vehicles are still perceived by many drivers as heavier propositions, duller to drive and priced too prohibitively expensive for most. All these factors become obstacles when it comes to seducing many users to abandon traditional gasoline and diesel vehicles.
However, the Netherlands-based electric vehicle manufacturer called Carice has set out to break some of these prejudices. To achieve this, the firm has launched a fully electric two-seater convertible car that stands out for being extremely light, agile and dynamic.
Named TC2, the new car weighs just 590 kg, offers a maximum range of 300 km and represents a real turning point in the field of electric vehicles for several reasons.
On the one hand, it shows that these alternatives can provide a fun driving experience and transmit emotions very similar to their counterparts with combustion engines.
Added to zero-emission driving is the power of nostalgia, as a retro-inspired aesthetic is clearly visible. In marked contrast to the highly sophisticated aesthetics displayed by most zero-emission vehicles that hit the market, Carice's proposal offers a combination of classic appearance with the technological touch of electromobility.
On the other hand, the car does not hide certain sporty qualities, especially in the dynamic field. It must be taken into account that this is not an adaptation of any other model but rather the TC2 has been designed and manufactured from scratch by the Dutch brand. In terms of dimensions, the small electric roadster measures 3.50 m long, 1.58 m wide and 1.22 m high.
The body panels are made from a composite material patented by the company which, as mentioned above, allows the car to be enormously light. This lightness not only contributes to dynamic agility but also to low energy consumption, which translates into reasonable autonomy.
The TC2 is powered by a 41 kW electric motor that allows it to travel at a maximum speed of 120 km/h. The longer-range alternative is equipped with a 31.5 kWh battery that can be recharged from 0 to 80% in less than three hours. Its elegant interior features vegan leather upholstery, a brushed stainless steel dashboard and a steering wheel made of noble wood.
No digital screens or sophisticated devices are included, as the brand wanted to keep the style of retro elegance intact, which is why it opted for the presence of switches and a classic-style instrument panel.
