Pere Calvet, new director of Business Expansion of Alsa in Catalonia

Alsa, a Spanish company dedicated to passenger transport by road and which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2023, has announced that Pere Calvet has joined the company as director of Business Expansion in Catalonia, a newly created position.

As the company has highlighted in a statement, with the arrival of Pere Calvet it has the objective "of promoting its growth strategy in Catalonia, strengthening its international presence and promoting diversification in new activities that the mobility company has undertaken in recent years ".

In the same letter, Alsa recalls that it is the leading operator "in sustainable, multimodal and connected mobility" in the road passenger transport sector in Spain. It has a fleet of 5,600 buses and a team of 16,000 professionals, "which last year served 553 million passengers."

Likewise, the company highlights that, "in parallel to its development in Spain", Alsa has carried out "an intense internationalization process" and currently manages operations in Morocco, France, Switzerland, Portugal and, soon, in Saudi Arabia.

Regarding his career, Pere Calvet is a road engineer at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPCBarcelonaTech). He is currently dean of the College of Road, Canal and Port Engineers of Catalonia and honorary president of the International Union of Public Transport (UITP).

It also participates in national and international organizations that promote the development of engineering, public transport and sustainable mobility. In addition, he is vice president of the Cercle d' Infraestructures, member of the advisory board of the Tomorrow.Mobility World Congress and patron of the Fundació Institut Ildefons Cerdà.

Until a little more than a month ago, Pere Calvet held the position of director general of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), specifically from 2011 until April 2023. Previously, he was technical director general of Infraestructures Ferroviàries de Catalunya (Ifercat ) from 2008 to 2011.
