Oracle locates a European digital health hub in Barcelona

Oracle locates a European digital health hub in Barcelona

The technology multinational Oracle has inaugurated today in Barcelona a new health hub for southern Europe, from which it will provide support to its clients in the area who are applying its new technology to modernize healthcare, both hospitals, insurance companies, startups of the sector or the public administrations themselves.

The president of the Generalitat, Pere Aragonés, the executive vice president of Oracle and director of Oracle Health, Travis Dalton, the Minister of Health, José Manuel Miñones, and the general director of Oracle Iberia, Albert Triola, have presided over the inauguration of the center, located in the Glòries tower, where the local offices of the multinational are located, which now employs more than 400 people in Catalonia.

Travis Dalton explained that the center "is just a start" of the company's plans for Barcelona. "We have chosen the city for its location, its educational system, its technology and its quality of life, to help us attract the best talent in the world for the company."

The new European Center will focus on providing support in the design of its clients' systems, so that they can simultaneously comply with the data protection and residence regulations that each country has. With 24-hour service, the center will put a special focus on cybersecurity, to prevent incidents due to intrusions or system outages, and to reduce recovery time if necessary.

Minister Miñones pointed out that the opening of the center is an opportunity for job creation and to "strengthen and develop the innovation ecosystem in digital health, which is beginning to be a reference at the European level." The Minister of Health recalled that the government is promoting its Digital Health strategy, with a budget of more than 800 million euros, to which an additional 150 million will be added for a Personalized Digital Care Plan, from the Addendum to the funds. Next Generation Europeans that have already been approved by the CE.

President Aragonés congratulated the opening of the Oracle center, which reinforces "the primacy and leadership of Catalonia in biomedical research", and for the impact it will have on the creation of quality employment.

The opening of the Barcelona hub has been the result of the collaboration between Oracle and the Barcelona Health Hub that began in February of last year. The multinational and the Hub of the Sant Pau modernist complex have worked together to develop new relationship formulas between companies and startups, to allow the co-creation of applications and accelerate innovation in digital health. Oracle gives startups access to the latest technologies and connects them to larger healthcare organizations. BHH has more than 300 members, including multinationals, public and private health institutions, investors and universities.

Oracle already has the Oracle NetSuite international development hub in Barcelona, ​​with professionals from around 40 different nationalities who develop programs in the nine for small and medium-sized companies around the world.

In Catalonia, Oracle has agreements with educational institutions such as La Salle-url; the Pompeu Fabra University (with the Oracle4Girls program) and the Department of Education (with the Oracle4Teachers program. The multinational is also a member of the Cercle Tecnològic de Catalunya (CTECNO) and the Digital Cluster of Catalonia.
