How to know if a radar has given you a speeding ticket before you receive the notification at home

According to data released by Associated European Motorists (AEA), last year 2022 the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) collected more than 500 million euros in traffic fines. This same report reveals that the fine for excessive speed is the most recurring violation on Spanish roads with more than three and a half million complaints. In this sense, drivers can be fined, in addition to Traffic Officers, by radars that contain relentless technology capable of detecting the speed of our vehicle and the maximum speed allowed on the road on which we travel.

In Spain there are several types of radars: fixed radars, mobile radars and section radars. Everyone has the ability to detect if we commit an infraction and, if so, send our identification data to the General Directorate of Traffic. When we have not complied with current legislation on the road, the DGT notifies us through a notification to our postal address. In it, it informs us of the reason for the fine, the date and place, as well as the pertinent sanction. However, if you do not want to wait for the notification to arrive at your home, you can also check the status of your fines in the official DGT application.

MiDGT is the official application of the DGT where we can know the points we have on our driving license, the status of our vehicle or find out if we have been fined. And, most importantly, updated in real time. To do this you simply have to download the application and register. Once you are logged in, go to the 'Thousand fines' section in the menu. In this section you will be able to see if you have a fine and if so, you can pay it through the same application without having to go to a bank office or a traffic delegation.

In addition, you can activate fine notifications as an alternative to notification by postal letter to your home. To do this you must deliver to the Road Electronic Address (DEV) and go to the 'Electronic notifications' section. Next, click on 'Add, modify and delete in DEV). Once you have filled in your personal information, the DGT may notify you electronically. Of course, you must keep in mind that if you activate this form of communication the DGT will “exclusively notify” electronically and will stop using ordinary mail.
