Gasoline rises in price and diesel falls in the middle of Easter

One of lime and one of sand. The average price of gasoline has risen this week, in the middle of the Easter holidays, by 0.21%, to 1.63 euros for each liter refueled, while that of diesel has fallen by 0.21%, to 1.53 euros per liter, according to the data contained in the oil bulletin of the European Union.

Until the days before Easter, gasoline had fallen in price. For two weeks the trend was down. But coinciding with the beginning of these festive days, it has rebounded. Diesel, for its part, has managed to stay eight weeks below the price of gasoline.

Compared to the first days in which the gas stations eliminated the general bonus of 20 cents per liter, at the beginning of the year, gasoline registered a 3% rise in its price. Diesel, for its part, has become cheaper by 8.4%. Both fuels are still far from the peak of last summer. In July gasoline reached 2.141 euros and diesel touched 2.1 euros.

The two fuels also remain below the amount they marked before the entry into force of the discount offered by the Ministry of Finance since March 2022. Then gasoline marked 1.818 euros and diesel, 1.837 euros per liter. At this time the discount is only addressed to the group of professional transporters, farmers, shipping companies and fishermen and was lowered on April 1 from 20 cents per liter to 10.

Compared to the same dates last year, current prices are 17% cheaper, in the case of diesel, and 10% lower, for gasoline, without taking into account this general discount, reports Europa Press.

Filling the average 55-liter tank at this time, when the discount of 20 cents per liter was in force, last year cost 88.7 euros on average for gasoline vehicles and 90.5 for diesel. At this time, one euro more is paid for the first ones and six less for the second ones.

Today the price of fuel is similar to the scenario prior to the war in Ukraine. After the invasion of Russia, diesel managed to surpass that of gasoline. Between August 2022 and mid-February of this year there was a 'sorpasso'. The dynamic has been broken in the last two months, practically.

This Thursday, a barrel of Brent, a reference in Europe, is trading at around 84 dollars, while the American Texas is trading at around 80 dollars. OPEC announced last Sunday a cut in its production.

With these levels, the price of 95 unleaded gasoline in Spain remains below the average for the European Union, located at 1.738 euros per liter, and for the euro area, with an average price of 1.786 euros. In the case of diesel, the price in Spain is also lower than the EU average, which is 1.646 euros, and the euro zone, where it marks a price of 1.676 euros.
