What is the new red mark on Google Maps for?

Google Maps is one of the free browsers with the most users in the world. The application of the main content search engine on the Internet has become the default GPS navigator for years for millions of drivers due to the features it offers and its ease of use. As time progresses, Google Maps is incorporating new functions, as we have noticed in previously published content.

Now this tool that seems essential for thousands of drivers when they get behind the wheel has just launched a new utility. It consists of a red thumbtack-like mark that remains fixed next to the location that was previously selected. The new function allows the user to move and perform other actions, such as searching for another site or expanding the visibility of the map, without losing the reference.

At the moment, Google has not made an official announcement of its novelty, but some users have begun to see indications while browsing Maps that take them directly to the point on the map where they have located a red pin, reports Europa Press.

This pin that remains fixed on the map ends one of the problems that the old Google Maps configuration caused. Until now, when selecting a location on the map, the point was also marked, but when looking for another reference the pin moved and we lost the point of origin set beforehand.

With the new indicator, the user can follow the direction of the arrow to locate the pin or click directly on it to take it automatically to the point where it is anchored. In this way it is much easier and faster to access the location that has been previously selected. For example, when a driver searches for a gas station on his route and does not want to lose his destination on the map.

Within the wide range of services provided by Google Maps, this application offers motorists other features of interest to facilitate their work behind the wheel. Let's see some of them below.

For Google Maps to notify you when you are going to go through a speed camera, you must first select the route and click on the 'how to get there' icon. If we do not do it, the cinemometers will not appear on the screen in the route that we are going to make. Fixed radars will be identified with the color orange, while mobile radars will be identified with the color blue. The application, however, does not warn about the latter because it is illegal, but warns that drivers have reported their location at that point.

It is advisable not to deactivate the voice instructions, since in the same way that the navigator informs you of the proximity of a roundabout or the exit of a motorway, it will also notify you when you are close to the radar.

The traffic lights are displayed in the app through an icon that shows the three colors of lights, although without specifying whether the light is red, amber or green. This function also allows drivers to choose an alternative route without traffic lights while checking the state of traffic, which Google Maps reports in real time.

Google Maps has an option that is very helpful when it comes to remembering where you have parked your car. So that we do not forget the exact point where the car is located once we have parked, we must press the blue dot that appears on the map and indicates your position. When we press it we will see on the screen the option to 'Save where the car is parked' and we must click so that it is registered on the map.

This function also offers the possibility of indicating the time that has been paid in a Regulated Parking Zone so that it notifies us in advance about the deadline time in case we need to renew the ticket.

Choosing the cheapest service stations to refuel can save considerable money over time. For this reason, more and more drivers compare the prices of the gas stations before loading the tank of the car. Google Maps shows the price of fuels by consulting the location of gas stations.

Once the query is made, the app reports by default the price of SP95 gasoline in the nearest establishments. The cost per liter of the rest of the fuels (SP98 gasoline and diesel) is obtained by displaying the file of the consulted gas station.
