Hello. I would like to know what ingredients I should discard from my diet this year (Lorena García, reader)

Hi Lorena,

Before answering, just a reminder that there are no prohibited ingredients or products, plus of course this will depend on what goals you have and what diet model you are following.

Having said that, we are going to remember which are the most harmful ingredients that we have in our diet, therefore the recommendation would not necessarily be to discard them completely, but rather to try to take the less the better:

Sweets. Industrial pastries, soft drinks and sugary desserts contribute greatly to increasing our energy intake without providing us with many nutrients of interest, and they also displace other much healthier products such as fruit and nuts.

Alcoholic beverages. Alcohol is a carcinogenic substance and is related to different non-communicable diseases such as heart disease. The less presence it has in our drinks, the better.

Sausages. Sausages are one of the products that usually go unnoticed in our diet because they have a lot of social acceptance, yet they are related to hypertension and the appearance of colorectal cancer.

Depending on each person's consumption, one product or another will have to be prioritized, but these three are usually a good guide to start limiting unhealthy foods in our diet.

Good day. If I make bread from ground flax seeds, does the flax lose its properties when cooked? (María Elena Coll, reader)

Hello María Elena, your question is very good because flax actually has certain peculiarities to take into account in order to have to absorb all its nutrients. Cooking flax does not have a negative impact on its assimilation of nutrients, but on the contrary, it is within the seed where we can access the omega-3 fatty acids that if it were not otherwise we would end up expelled by our digestive system without proper absorption. .

For this reason we usually recommend crushing the flax seeds, or in any case letting them soak. In the case of baking like bread, some of that omega-3 may be destroyed but it will still be a good contribution to the bread dough, given that the seeds will also provide a very good amount of fiber. to nutritionally complete the flour you are using.

If you are making this recipe because you want to incorporate flax or chia into your diet, I would also recommend that you consider other alternatives such as chia pudding, it is very easy to make and allows you to take advantage of all the nutrients within these seeds.
