Vox will carry the motion of no confidence alone in the face of the PP's refusal

Vox is left alone in its intention to present a motion of no confidence against Pedro Sánchez, but it is determined to sign it alone if the other parties do not second it. If they do, the president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, what he is clear about is that he will not vote against.

The spokesman for Santiago Abascal's party in Congress, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros, assured yesterday that "if Vox once again remains alone, if only Vox remains, we will." And it is that the spokesman for Citizens in Congress, Edmundo Bal, has already advanced that "with Abascal as president" his group will not support the initiative. What those of Inés Arrimadas want is for the PP "not to be lukewarm", and to present it themselves. But Feijóo is not in favor of the work, since he believes that the President of the Government could obtain a large absolute majority, as has happened with the budgets, and the motion "would only serve to whitewash Sánchez," he alleged.

For the time being, the PP spokeswoman, Cuca Gamarra, has made a consultation among "small groups" about what they would do in a motion, and except for the two deputies expelled from UPN and the Foro Asturias parliamentarian, who would support it, the Others, from Teruel Existe to the Canary Coalition, passing through the PRC, believe that "we are not for motions."

The leader of the PP believes, therefore, that the best motion of no confidence is the elections on May 28 and the pre-campaign will begin around Christmas, and that is what he will dedicate himself to. Despite sharing the diagnosis made by Vox, considering that what "Sánchez has done is very serious", for the leader of the PP "it is the Spaniards who have to vote for the motion of no confidence at the polls" on May 28, and not 350 deputies "in the only ballot box in which it will be lost."

This is how the president of the PP will expose it to Abascal, who after publicly announcing his intention to present a motion of censure, sent him a message to tell him that they had to talk about the matter. The popular leader will answer him, after expressing his position in public – as he did – that he believes that the motion does not solve anything and that it will only help Sánchez. Another thing, Feijóo acknowledges, would be for the government to break with the independentistas and lose stability, or for the PSOE to break with United We Can, a situation that does not occur.

In reality, what the PP would like would be for Vox not to materialize the motion of no confidence and realize, as the popular ones propose, that it will strengthen Sánchez in the remaining year of the legislature. That Vox does it puts the PP in a difficult position. When he raised the previous one in October 2020, Casado voted no. Now, Feijóo would not follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, he would not vote no, but he also does not clarify whether he would abstain or vote against. "If there is no candidate, how is it going to define itself now?", they ask themselves in the PP.
