Vox abstains and enables the election of Prohens in the Balearic Islands with a solo government

Marga Prohens has been elected president of the Balearic Islands thanks to an abstention from Vox that has allowed her to be elected in the second investiture session. Prohens will govern alone since the pact with Vox leaves this party out of the Executive. The president has reiterated that her government will not imply cuts in rights, despite the fact that the document that PP and Vox have agreed to includes measures such as the repeal of the Memory Law or the incorporation of Spanish as the vehicular language in education.

In his speech in the Balearic Parliament, he assured that he assumes the Presidency with the will to change the policies that have been developed up to now in the Balearic Islands and the way of doing politics, "which will be guided by freedom". "I want a free islands where the administration does not tell the citizens what they have to do," she said.

Prohens has affirmed that his objective is to achieve islands open to the world and has recognized that the challenge of governing alone will be difficult, but he has added that this complexity does not scare him. He has reached out to the opposition to facilitate a legislature to dialogue and respectful and took advantage of the final minutes of his speech to thank his predecessor, Francina Armengol, and all of the team of ministers, for the work they have done over the years.

Armengol has given the reply to Prohens in a speech that will be his last intervention in the Balearic Parliament since he will be the candidate of the PSOE in the next general elections. In her intervention, Armengol has denounced that the program that the PP and Vox have agreed to represents a "historic setback" in rights and freedoms. "The freedom that you propose is that of a few," she told him.

He has also regretted that environmental policies are handed over to the extreme right in the Consell de Mallorca, where it has already been announced that the insular directorates for equality and language policy will be abolished. "She will be the president with the least votes in favor of history," she told him. "If she takes on the important challenges and doesn't waste our time with tensions that we have already known in another era, she will have our support," she told him.

The two spokespersons for Més and Més for Menorca, Lluís Apesteguia and Josep Castells, have announced their vote against because they do not share the economic and tourism policies of the president. Both have announced strong opposition if Prohens' announcements are confirmed.

Prohens will take office this Friday in an act that will not be attended by any government minister, who sends the general director of Autonomous and Local Policy, Alejandra del Río. The president has already practically closed her government and on Monday they will take office and the first meeting of the Government Council will be held.
