Urbanism gives the go-ahead for the Soler chalet in Girona to house the Museum of Mathematics

Today the Territorial Commission for Town Planning has given the green light for the Soler de Girona chalet, a Noucentista-style building built during the post-war period and in disuse for years, to become an educational facility that will house the future Museum of Mathematics and the House of Technology.

Urbanism has approved today the modification of the Special Plan for the protection of Girona's heritage that will make it possible to carry out this reconversion, rehabilitate the building -listed as historical-artistic heritage- and carry out small extensions to guarantee accessibility. The modification details the conditions in which the intervention can be carried out, which will force the demolition of the auxiliary buildings to the chalet.

However, the regulations remove the prohibition on building new buildings in the garden. In this sense, a new construction will be enabled from the ground floor to the garden, which will be used as a multipurpose room. The rest of the garden will be for public use.

The location in the Soler chalet of a public facility for the dissemination of science and mathematics and to stimulate scientific vocations was one of the "emblems of the mandate" as the mayoress, Marta Madrenas, had recognized on previous occasions.

The estate, delimited by Riu Segre streets and Valentí Fargnoli square, has a main building of about 220 square meters. It is an isolated construction, surrounded by greenery, which was designed by the architect Ricard Giralt Casadesús between 1940 and 1941.

The works in this space, on the axis of the Barcelona road, must transform this entrance to the south of the city. An area to which the Ermessenda institute should be added in the future, in the warehouses of the old Simón factory,

A work, that of converting the Soler chalet into a Museum of Mathematics and House of Technology, which is delayed. A year ago, when the City Council informed of these intentions, they indicated the beginning of this year as the start of the works.
