Three easy-to-assemble kits to turn your car into a camper

The camper phenomenon has infected the youngest, but also entire families in search of independence and versatility in their trips. Of course, the price of leisure vehicles, like everything, does not stop rising and their acquisition represents a complex investment to justify compared to hotel nights with room service. For this reason, below we show you three kits to camper your family car without spending a lot of money.

The wave of SUVs arrived in Europe to end, in one fell swoop, the hegemony of minivans for families or SUVs for young people with hobbies related to nature. Its design, habitability and light off-road capabilities have conquered most of those interested in a vehicle, even if its use is purely urban.

The automotive sector has shown that two worlds, such as the caravanning and tourism industries, can easily go hand in hand. There are many users looking for a vehicle in line with their active lifestyle, so being able to install an easy, removable and practical camper kit seems like the definitive solution.

This company based in the Czech Republic offers five types of camper kit, adapted to all types of vehicles that do not necessarily have to have the loading capacity of a van. The space in the trunk, but also the rest of the cabin, will be key to choosing the model that best suits the possibilities of the car.

The Hiker 100 kit is designed for small vans such as the Volkswagen Caddy, Renault Kangoo or Citroën Berlingo and similar vans from the Stellantis group. In its extendable drawers you can install a portable kitchen, a refrigerator and even the tank necessary to have water on your getaways. Its price is 3,966 euros and the bed occupies the width and length of the rear area of the van.

For larger vans, they offer the Roamer kit, for 4,596 euros, with more space to store household items, luggage and a comfortable folding bed for two adults. The Supertramp 300, specific for the most luxurious off-road vehicles on the market and capable of making anyone dream of an adventure through the most complicated deserts. Of course, its price is 4,596 euros.

However, the kits for family models, SUVs or minivans are the most striking of their offer. The Tramp 250 kit costs just over 3,000 euros and only weighs 37 kilograms. We are talking about a folding installation that can be stored in the garage during the week and easily mounted for the weekend in cars such as the Mini Countryman, Volkswagen Passat or a Skoda Karoq.

It has just enough drawers for a short getaway, so the Camper 200 kit may be more suitable for adventurers. To the lower cabinets that we have already seen in other models, with a sink, 18-liter water tank, removable kitchen and storage, a bed surface measuring 1.95 meters long by 1.01 m wide is added.

The Van Lab module targets the same type of audience, who has an SUV in their parking lot and wants to be able to sleep autonomously from time to time. For this, the company offers two versions of equipment. The first of them, for 1,785 euros, only offers the kitchen with two sliding drawers that are accessed from the trunk lid. There is space for a refrigerator, portable stove, sink and tableware storage, plus two folding chairs.

The most equipped option has the folding platform for the bed, which opens to create one that is 1.91 meters long by 1.30 meters wide. The vehicle seats must be foldable and, despite having a reduced space up to the roof, it will allow two adults to sleep comfortably. The price of this option is 2,151 euros, to which we can add the cushions for just over 400 euros.

Another great option for SUV models are the RiverLeaf Camper kits, which cost less than 3,000 euros, but involve a little more installation than the previous ones. Unlike the Van Lab drawer units, this camper module must be adjusted using basic tools and its instruction book.

Being a “handyman” will compensate, given that its storage and equipment capacity is superior to the rest. The removable drawers also have portable kitchens and sinks, but we can add chemical toilets, ambient lights and more comfortable mattresses. In addition, extras such as solar panels can also be requested.
