Students and professors from the faculties of the Zona Universitària of Barcelona say that they are fed up with the distracted thieves, with the proliferation of thieves who dress as exemplary and self-sacrificing university students to hang around the back of the faculties, in their courtyards, terraces and cafeterias, in order to steal computers, phones, tablets...

“People relax and put aside their laptop backpack – some victims of these misdeeds report – and when they want to realize it, they have exchanged it for an empty one. They did it to me, come on. Then you look like a fool... The truth is that it is very common, even though they put up signs telling people to be careful. It's been going on for years."

Apparently confrontations with waiters are common. “As soon as they recognize the thieves, they kick them out. They don't look like criminals, they hide very well. But some come so much... Some teachers also scold them. But these people insist on coming. They don't give up. If they are not one, they are another. And if they see a backpack inside a car, then they break the glass. From time to time the police arrest a few, but... People are tired of so many sausages”.

The Mossos d'Esquadra reported yesterday the arrest of five women and two men who posed as university students to go unnoticed in the Zona Universitària facilities and thus take away everything they could. These seven people accumulate up to 79 police records.

The sources of the Generalitat police also detail that those arrested used to organize themselves in pairs, some chose their victims at the entrances to the university campuses, others followed them idly, until they found the opportunity to carry out the coup. In order not to attract attention, they constantly changed their clothes. In addition, they had a vehicle parked nearby where they kept the loot that they accumulated throughout the day.

Within the framework of the Tremall Plan aimed at redoubling the pressure on multiple repeat offenders operating in Barcelona, the regional police from the Les Corts police station intensified surveillance and patrolling in this area with the aim of preventing thefts committed by people who are doing their way of life from crime. So far this year, the Generalitat police have already arrested fifteen people.
