These police tricks will prevent your car from being stolen when it is parked

No one is safe from having their car stolen or having it broken into to remove their belongings from inside. Thieves take advantage of the slightest opportunity to act without discriminating between new or old vehicles, high-end or utility vehicles. Their main objective is to find any loophole to carry out their criminal activities, so it is advisable to adopt all types of measures to minimize the risks of theft and protect our assets.

The National Police, through its social networks, has issued a message in which it offers a series of tips to drivers on how to park their vehicles safely and reduce the risk of theft. An agent recommends on the body's official profile on Tik-Tok to manually check that the car doors are properly closed and not leave objects in sight when we get out of it.

It also advises parking in busy, well-lit areas and using anti-theft devices, such as GPS locators, to know where the vehicle is in case it goes missing.

All of these tips are well known to most motorists. However, the agent highlights a recommendation that goes beyond those considerations that most drivers already put into practice whenever possible. This advice refers to how we should park the car on the street.

The agent advises parking in a line instead of parking in a row, arguing that this practice makes it difficult for thieves to steal without being detected because the vehicle is not boxed laterally next to others.

This recommendation highlights a key aspect that we often overlook: the way we park our vehicle can make a difference in terms of safety. Choosing to park in line, rather than parking, increases vehicle visibility, deterring those looking for sneaky opportunities to commit theft.

Every little detail counts when it comes to protecting our assets, and this simple parking choice can go a long way toward reducing the risk of theft.

In 2023, 30,917 vehicles were stolen in Spain, an average of 85 cars every day, highlighting the persistent threat of car theft in our country. These alarming figures underline the importance of taking all the measures we have at our disposal to minimize the risk of theft.

For this reason, the National Police already launched a message before the summer in which it underlines the importance of ensuring that after closing the car doors with the remote control that they have been locked. A security agent warned that criminals use frequency inhibitors to intercept the control signal and thus prevent the doors from closing.

Data on the most stolen cars in Spain show that thieves do not only focus on the most luxurious cars. In 2022, for the third consecutive year, the Seat Ibiza, the Seat León and the Volkswagen Golf were at the top of the most stolen models, according to a report prepared by the insurance comparator HelloSafe.

According to the insurance association Unespa, the interest of criminals in these three best-selling passenger cars of the Volkswagen Group is due to the fact that the parts of these cars are the most in demand in the circuits of illegal sale of spare parts.
