The Valencian Community prohibits mobile phones in schools and institutes

Starting this Friday, May 3, the Valencian Community will prohibit the use of mobile devices in non-university educational centers supported by public funds throughout the school day. This was announced this Thursday by the Minister of Education, José Antonio Rovira, at a press conference coinciding with Bullying Day.

Thus, it appears in an Education resolution that will be published tomorrow in the Official Gazette of the Valencian Community (DOGV). With this measure, which will be in force throughout the school year, the aim is to begin to address the problem of harassment and cyberbullying while the coexistence rule is published, which is already in the public exhibition phase, as well as for the student to “stop being “watch your cell phone” while at school and institutes.

For this reason, the prohibition of the use of mobile phones in schools will be in force throughout the day, whether during classes, recess or extracurricular activities to avoid "the indiscriminate use of mobile phones without supervision, which can generate difficulties in learning." and also in coexistence.” “When you arrive at the center, the cell phone turns off and can only be turned on when you leave,” he noted.

In case of non-compliance, the center itself will be responsible for removing the mobile phone, its temporary custody and its return. In this way, we want to reinforce the authority of the teaching staff. In addition, awareness and training campaigns will be provided to the educational community on the use of mobile phones and social networks.

The mobile phone may only be used in two exceptions:  for educational activities, and always under the supervision of the teacher, or for health reasons or other reasons authorized by the center.
