The tram faces BComú and PSC in the tussles of the mandate

The last plenary session of the mandate, the one popularly known as the one with the broom, ended with the mayoress Ada Colau wishing luck for the next momentous weeks and also for life to the other 40 councilors of Barcelona. She said it like that, the mayoress, in a very spontaneous and natural way. In any case, the moment of the farewells will take place after the elections, before the constitution of the new City Council, when what is known as the plenary session of the tear is held.

And the truth is that the brief session held yesterday of barely an hour passed in an unusually affable way. As usual on these occasions, the opposition groups did not raise any proposals, and the points surrounding the government's action did not trigger major brawls.

The friction occurred in the corridors of municipal offices, where politicians usually stop to launch messages on issues that may not appear on the agenda. And once again, the frictions were the protagonists, the two partners of the municipal government. Even between the death rattles of their alliance, commoners and socialists are capable of throwing things at their heads and wherever.

The fuse was lit by the former first deputy mayor, the socialist Jaume Collboni, the day before, in his speech at the series of discussion lunches with the heads of the list of these imminent elections organized by the Círculo Ecuestre, when he said that perhaps it would be convenient to postpone a mandate the works of union by the avenue Diagonal of the two lines of the tram.

To the deputy mayor for Urbanism, the ordinary Janet Sanz, those words seemed a real disloyalty, a torpedo against the agreement that made this municipal government possible. If this pre-electoral period lasts a little longer, it will surely blow up all the chances of this government pact being reissued again.

Deputy Mayor Sanz accused the Socialists of practicing electoralism with a matter of great importance for Barcelona. "I want to think that what Collboni said was a mistake, perhaps he wanted to please certain sectors," said Sanz before demanding a rectification from the PSC mayor. It is that last week, in the Autoritat del Transport Públic (ATM), the Socialists themselves supported commissioning the project of the second phase. I would like to think that Collboni has not signed an agreement with Xavier Trias to stop the tram works. Because Trias has already said many times that he is against the tram, but he ... ”.

Shortly after, the still Councilor for Mobility, the socialist Laia Bonet, wanted to respond to the municipal head of Urban Planning. "In the PSC we are in favor of the connection of the two tram lines," the mayor added. We have always been there. We are talking about a key infrastructure for this city. But right now, Barcelona needs to open a new stage in which the great transformations are carried out through consensus and dialogue, without impositions or dogmatism”.

In addition, common and socialists have already been putting sticks in the wheels for two plenary sessions in honor of a motion on the Besòs neighborhood, where in principle it would be much easier to understand each other than the opposite. After all, the true objective of the motion in question was none other than to put a little pressure on the Generalitat to pay more attention to this side of the city. But a month ago, the socialists did not support the proposal of the commons and yesterday, in the plenary session of the broom, the commons rejected the text of the socialists. The matter was not discussed in the sessions, but instead in the corridors...
