The three-wheeled electric vehicle that is committed to urban micromobility

The possibilities currently offered by the world of electric mobility continue to multiply, some with the aim of getting closer to minimum consumption, others with the goal of achieving the smallest space and others with the intention of achieving maximum autonomy. In the field of specifically urban micromobility, there are proposals as striking and curious as the Iris e-Trike, which aims to open a gap between daily trips in large cities.

This particular vehicle began its journey in 2017 and, since then, various modifications and up to three different versions have been made. Among these variations is the incorporation of numerous technologies with the clear objective of achieving safer and more comfortable journeys at all levels.

The high-strength body made of state-of-the-art materials (over which is a transparent roof made of aviation acrylic with a demisting function) is supported on a chrome-plated steel tricycle chassis. Not to be overlooked is the addition of a new climate control system with a HEPA air purifier so that contamination and potential outside germs stay out of the cabin.

LED headlights, brake lights and side markers will make the electric trike visible in traffic. The closed cockpit features a design inspired by racing helmets. The bodywork of the e-Trike guarantees a certain protection to the occupant in the event of a collision, one of the arguments offered by the manufacturer to opt for this option instead of a conventional bike.

Inside the cab are the presence of pedals, an ergonomic seat that can be folded down to access a lockable rear storage compartment, a screen, a smartphone dock, a digital rear-view mirror and an audio system. For its part, an RFID electronic key fob allows you to open and close the vehicle, although you can also choose to do so with a conventional key.

Legally, the Iris is an electrically assisted trike, so it is driven by pedaling and shifting via a 9-speed bicycle shifter. The motor starts up when you start pedaling and allows the vehicle to climb hills quite easily thanks to its different levels of electrical assistance.

As for the "shoes" of this Iris proposal, it should be noted that it has carbon rims associated with puncture-proof Tannus tires and that it is equipped with disc brakes to stop. In some international markets it is offered with motors of up to 1,000 W and a maximum speed close to 50 km/h.

However, the limits set by the European Union legislation require units sold in member countries such as ours to integrate a 250 W motor and provide a maximum assisted speed of 25 km/h. In terms of electric range, the e-Trike will provide about 50 km with each recharge.

The price will be around 5,800 euros and it is estimated that the first deliveries will take place during the second half of 2024. You can see this new electric tricycle in more detail in the video that accompanies this article.
