The soap opera of the motion of censure: Vox lowers the smoke to Tamames

In classical politics, what some called "old politics", the principle was that motions of no confidence are not announced, they are presented. But Santiago Abascal, signed up for the new policy, thinks the opposite, and two months after the announcement that he would present a motion of censure against Pedro Sánchez, the second in three years, he is still defoliating the daisy, although in Vox they assure that the decision to present it is firm.

On December 9, after the abolition of the crimes of sedition, the reduction of embezzlement and the reforms that the Government tried to introduce in the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) and the Constitutional Court, Santiago Abascal announced a motion of censure to put an end to the government of Pedro Sánchez and elect an executive "to rebuild democracy and the wounded homeland".

In the video, Abascal announced that he was going to work to find "a neutral candidate, with government experience, who is not a member of any party and who is committed to calling immediate elections."

After considering many names, the president of Vox opted for Ramón Tamames, a former leader of the PCE who later became, in 1989, a centrist in the CDS, the party that Adolfo Suárez created after leaving the UCD, although he soon abandoned politics. Until Abascal remembered him and proposed that he lead the motion of no confidence that he wants to present against Pedro Sánchez.

The outlook seemed clear when Tamames himself confirmed the offer and began a round of interviews on all the television stations, in which he assured that he was even preparing his government program. And there all the alarms went off in Vox, because that is not what Abascal's party wanted, but rather, as its leader had announced, they wanted a president to oust Sánchez and call elections.

Tamames had taken the candidacy seriously and even began to speak with leaders of other parties, such as Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who tried to convince him that he would not run and even told him that if he were his father, he would not let him lead the motion of no confidence. .

However, the former communist leader sees the motion as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and therefore must accept it. He understands that if he doesn't, he will regret it. He only expected one thing to give the definitive yes to Vox, to know how they were going to present him, that is, what defense of the motion and of his person would the Vox leaders make before presenting his program.

In Vox they began to worry and wanted to lower the smoke to Tamames, and while the possible candidate announced a meeting for Tuesday with Abascal, Vox moved it to Wednesday and doubted that it would be a meeting with the party leader. It was about reminding him that the party is in charge.

Finally, they will not break, at least for now. From Vox, yesterday it was insisted that the talks with Ramón Tamames continue to advance. "We trust that in the next few days there will be news," said the spokesman for the far-right party in Congress, Iván Espinosa de los Monteros.

Despite this chill from Vox, Tamames is willing to lead the motion. Núñez Feijóo's advice has fallen on deaf ears. Yesterday, the PP leader once again advised him "not to let himself be used" and told him that this motion of no confidence, which no other group will support, is a victory for the chief executive. For Feijóo, the best motion of censure is the one issued by citizens at the polls.

Vox must register the initiative before the end of February so that it can be discussed before Easter. Afterwards, all the parties will enter the campaign.
