The seven most demanded rental cars in Spain so far this year

The leasing channel continues to increase its weight in the market. This modality contributes to planning the level of spending of many companies and freelancers. In addition, the fact of being able to brand new a car often means benefiting from all the innovations in safety, technology, connectivity or efficiency of the new generation models.

The Spanish Association of Vehicle Renting has published the figures for renting registrations during the first four months of this year 2023. The records are positive, with a total of 98,493 units, which represents an increase of 44.13% compared to the same period of 2022.

The weight of leasing in the total number of registrations in the Spanish market is 26.91%. In other words, one vehicle out of four that is released in our market corresponds to this channel. The vehicle segment where leasing has the greatest presence is commercial and pick-up, where the sector currently covers 44.14% of the market.

Passenger cars are also gradually increasing their presence in leasing operations carried out in our country. Volkswagen leads the ranking of brands with the greatest presence, with Renault and Peugeot next. In the top 10 from January to April 2023, it is also worth noting the presence of three premium brands, such as the German Mercedes-Benz (sixth), BMW (seventh) and Audi (ninth).

Light commercials have a strong presence, thanks to the enormous penetration of three models: Renault Express, Citroën Berlingo and Ford Transit. Reflecting the general market trend, crossovers are also protagonists, with five models among the ten best sellers.

By type of propulsion, gasoline models are the most in demand, with 37.4%, followed by diesel models, which account for 24.5% of operations. Very close to diesel cars are light hybrids, with 22.6%. This statistic shows the low penetration in leasing operations of pure electric vehicles (4.79%) and plug-in hybrid PHEVs, which barely account for 5.1%.

Below we present the seven models - apart from the commercial ones - with the greatest presence in the leasing channel during the period January-April 2023.
