The rose of the monastery of Santes Creus

Today, Sant Jordi's Day, I would like to show in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos, this photograph that I have taken inside the Monastery of Santes Creus with a motif representative of this time of year.

Specifically, I mean that we can see in the foreground a beautiful rose, like the ones that will be sold during this Sant Jordi day in Catalonia.

But in addition, this rose is located in a privileged space such as near the cloister of this historic monastery.

Built from the 12th century, this monastery is a Cistercian abbey located in the municipality of Aiguamúrcia, in the village of Santes Creus.

The annexation of the royal pantheon took place in the 13th century, when Pere III of Aragon expressed his desire to be buried in the monastery. Since then, part of the nobility followed this medieval custom until the year 1340, when Pere el Cerimoniós decided to move the pantheon of the monarchy to the monastery of Poblet.

However, the monastic life of this religious building disappeared in 1835 as a result of the confiscation of Mendizábal.

Without a doubt, a beautiful rose in a beautiful place, which reminds us that Sant Jordi and spring are here.
