"We know that our protest is correct, as was that of the young people 211 years ago who drove out the French invaders, as did the young people who accompanied Columbus to discover a new continent 531 years ago, as did Don Pelayo 1,305 years ago, rising against the invader," read the manifesto, read by a representative of the participating entities.

"This is the good side of history, the same history that will remember those who stood up for freedom, for democracy, for defending the rule of law and Spain," he added.

The organizers have also warned that "yesterday were the pardons, today was the amnesty, but tomorrow will be the referendum and independence."

For her part, the president of the Cataluña Suma platform, Eva Higueras, has denounced that "the PSOE is selling Spain to sectarian politicians": "All of them together are a danger to democracy."
