The PSOE opens another way of attacking Feijóo and pressures him to reveal his "bonus" from the PP

“The Popular Party is and continues to be the only party convicted of irregular financing, having been proven in court that a system of cash payments to its top managers originating from donations outside of official accounting was created within it”, has warned the PSOE. And with this precedent, Minister Pilar Alegría, spokesperson for the executive and the Ferraz electoral committee, has insisted this Monday on opening another avenue of attack and pressure on Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who "continues without clarifying the citizens, for some time more than a year, what is the bonus you receive from the Popular Party?

To the pacts between the PP and the ultra-right of Vox in town halls and autonomous communities, and to the lack of specificity of Feijóo to agree to hold electoral debates face to face with Pedro Sánchez in this campaign, the Socialists add the demand to know "as many brevity” the volume of financial compensation that the leader of the opposition receives from his own party, apart from the salary he receives as a senator. The spokesperson for the socialist parliamentary group in the Senate, Eva Granados, has thus sent a letter this Monday to the president of the Upper House, the also socialist Ander Gil, urging him to contact Senator Feijóo to claim the duty to update his declaration of assets and income, "since he has confessed, before a media outlet, that he receives remuneration from the Popular Party of which he has not informed the Senate."

"Asking for transparency and simple answers from Feijóo is practically asking for the impossible", criticized Minister Pilar Alegría. "We are seeing it in the matter of the debates, and we are seeing it and living it for a little over a year where Feijóo continues without clarifying to the citizens what is the bonus that he receives from the Popular Party", she pointed out. “Unfortunately opacity and obscurantism is what we are seeing on the part of the PP during all this time, either in the debates, either hiding that bonus from Feijóo, or in the agreements between the PP and Vox in the different autonomous communities” , has denounced.

The PSOE had been pulling this thread for a long time. But last Monday, in an interview on Cadena Ser, Feijóo himself acknowledged that in addition to the around 70,000 euros a year that he receives as a senator, he gets a plus as president of the PP and its steering committee. This increase in his salary, however, is not reflected in his declaration of assets and income presented in the Senate. And the Socialists demand an immediate end to this "lack of transparency" that they attribute to the leader of the PP.

In its letter to the president of the Senate, the socialist group "absolutely" denies that the PSOE "has a system of bonuses for the members of its highest representative bodies", as Feijóo himself indicated in said interview. “The PSOE, unlike the Popular Party, publishes through its web portal the remuneration of the members of its management bodies. It is not true, in any way, that there is a system of parallel remuneration like the one that Feijóo has recognized in this interview ”, they warn. And they warn that it is "an absolute misrepresentation of reality."

“Feijóo has acknowledged that he receives remuneration from the Popular Party. This is an admission of great importance, since it confirms that the also president of the PP is hiding part of his income from the Senate, ”the Socialists point out in his letter. “To this day, the information regarding the bonuses that Feijóo has acknowledged receiving is still not available. There is, therefore, a concerted will between the PP and its president to hide this information from the public as a whole”, they conclude.
