The Basque PP has not yet adjusted its behavior within the political dynamics in the Basque institutions, which often lead it to coincide with EH Bildu or to vote in favor of his proposals, with the discourse focused on criticizing the nationalist coalition that monopolizes his speech against the Government of Pedro Sánchez. A good example has been seen today in the Basque Parliament, in the first session after the campaign. The popular ones have voted in favor of a legislative reform to facilitate energy self-consumption in Basque homes, an initiative by EH Bildu whose terms the popular representatives have praised.
The truth is that the news, which in practice facilitates the installation of solar panels and charging points for electric cars, would not have had any significance had it not been for the prominence that the PP has given to EH Bildu since the electoral campaign, once he saw an electoral vein in the controversy over the inclusion of exetarras in some municipal lists.
It is common for the popular Basques to coincide with EH Bildu in voting in the Basque Parliament, the General Meetings or the town halls, even to approve their projects. It is something that goes back at least a decade, when the former popular mayor of Vitoria-Gasteiz, Javier Maroto, normalized it in this consistory. The examples since then have been many and it seemed like a consolidated dynamic 12 years after the birth of the Abertzale coalition.
In fact, even during the run-up to the electoral campaign, the popular Basques once again validated the possibility of reaching agreements with the nationalist party. This was stated by its number one in Gipuzkoa, Mikel Lezama, in an interview in El Diario Vasco: “If EH Bildu presents positive measures for Gipuzkoa, why aren't we going to support them? If they propose to improve social services, why would I vote against it? I am delighted that EH Bildu participates and submits to the democratic game, which is what we have always wanted. Why weren't we going to vote in favor of a good proposal for Gipuzkoa that comes from a party that is within the democratic rules?
Then came the controversy over the municipal lists of EH Bildu and the PP chose to use it as one of the axes of its campaign. This Thursday's session was the first in the Basque Parliament after the electoral campaign. Now, it remains to be seen if the popular Basques adjust their positions in the Basque institutions.
