The old Clesa factory in Fuencarral-El Pardo will be declared a protected building

The Community of Madrid will begin the procedures to declare the old Clesa factory, located in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district, in the capital, an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC).

This was announced by the Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports, Mariano De Paco, in the Government control session in plenary session of the Madrid Assembly, in response to a question from the socialist deputy Mar Espinar.

De Paco has clarified that the category of monument will be granted to this property located at number 67 Avenida del Cardenal Herrera Oria. The regional Executive commissioned the General Directorate of Heritage reports to assess the historical significance of the building last May, which they received a few days ago giving the Government the green light to start the procedures.

De Paco recalled that in October 2022 it was visited by officials from the ministry and a first technical report denied that it met the conditions to declare it BIC because it had lost volumes, carpentry, stairs and it did not have original machinery or storage spaces and treatment of milk from these two buildings built in the sixties by Alejandro de la Sota.

De Paco has given as an example the "listening to everyone", including the associations that asked for his protection, the request for a second report that has made it possible for him to finally begin his declaration as a BIC.

In his intervention, Espinar has focused on the more than 30 associations that have demanded this protection of this "masterpiece of industrial architecture." An "emblematic building", which the socialists consider needs to also be a cultural endowment for Fuencarral-El Pardo.
