The Mossos d'Esquadra have recovered a commemorative bronze plaque stolen from the feet of the Creu del Matagalls, in the Montseny massif, in Barcelona, and are investigating two people: the antiquarian from Madrid who sold it and a Catalan collector who acquisition
The plaque, 40 by 25 centimeters, was installed in honor of priest Jaume Oliveras i Brossa, hiker and climber who completed the Matagalls-Montserrat Crossing in 1904.
The Club Excursionista de Gràcia installed two identical plaques in 2004: the first in Santuario de Montserrat and the second on the summit of Matagalls. The plaque at the foot of the Cross is integrated as cultural heritage in the Montseny Natural Park
He disappeared at an undetermined time between 2020 and 2021, and the events were reported in 2023 by the Gràcia Excursionist Club.
The plaque will be returned to the Montseny City Council in the coming weeks for its restitution at the base of the Matagalls Cross, according to the Catalan police.
