The Montjuïc cable car reopens its doors at normal hours after passing the mandatory annual inspections and fine-tuning of the installation's elements.
The break that took place since February 5 was divided into two phases. First, the cable transport system was reviewed at a mechanical, electrical and hydraulic level. Finally, last week internal exams were carried out to ensure optimal functioning.
Carlos Sánchez, responsible for Operation of the Montjuïc cable car, explains that they carried out the review with predictive maintenance: "The small deviations detected in normal operation allow us to determine which component we need to give more attention to during the mandatory annual inspection."
The Montjuïc cable car undergoes a more exhaustive inspection every eight years, coinciding with 22,500 hours of operation, thus scheduling a review of about seven or eight weeks. In this examination, a detailed disassembly of system elements is carried out, including the drive flywheel. The review examines several technical elements, including traction cable replacement, verification of safety and evacuation systems.
The 2023 figures surpassed a historical record with a total of 2.1 million trips and since its opening in 2007, it is close to 22 million trips.
