The man accused of murdering his roommate in Lleida says he found him "dead in a corner"

The person accused of murdering his roommate in the Lleida neighborhood of Cappont, in September 2020, declared this Tuesday in the Lleida Court that, on the day of the events, he went to sleep after taking a "pill" and when he woke up he went to his roommate's room, but found him "dead in a corner."

The accused defended that he "had a friendly relationship" with the victim and that when he found the body he did not alert the police because he had been in prison previously and was "afraid" to return.

The Prosecutor's Office requests a sentence of 31 years in prison for the man, imprisoned preventively since he was arrested in France days after the crime. The trial, with a popular jury, began this Tuesday and ends on Thursday.

In its indictment, the Prosecutor's Office maintains that in the early hours of September 18 to 19, 2020, Pierre Rubio called his brothers in France from an apartment in the Cappont neighborhood of Lleida by video conference to ask them for money. When they refused, in order to intimidate them, he showed the lifeless body of his roommate, a man from Arbeca whom he had met in the Lleida prison, while he hit the corpse and screamed saying that the deceased had sold his soul for 6,000 euros, that he was going to cut it and that he would go to Paris to do the same to them if they didn't help him.

The Prosecutor's Office requests 31 jail terms for the alleged murderer, 25 for a crime of murder with treachery and cruelty and three for two crimes of threatening his two brothers.
