The lost tram from Argentona to Mataró

Today I would like to show in La Vanguardia Readers' Photos some images that I took in Argentona, in Maresme, where we can find this beautiful tram.

This tram made its journey linking the towns of Mataró and Argentona. The service was in operation from 1928 to 1966. During this time, it helped workers get to their workplaces and, in addition, it also helped vacationers get around.

In fact, this service was so successful that the initial three trams grew to a total fleet of seven vehicles. All of them were numbered and, to cite an example, precisely the tram that we can see in the images is number 2.

However, this heyday of this means of transportation did not continue due to several problems they had to face. Some floods destroyed railway infrastructure, there were also fatal accidents and the death of a founder of the company that managed the tram.

Although if that were not enough, he also had to deal with more problems. In this case, it is a problem related to cars and buses. We mean that due to the increase in the use of these alternative means of transport, the tram, little by little, was left behind.

Today and after some wagons have been in service for 38 years, some of these vehicles can be found on display in the streets of Mataró, Argentona or in museums.

Without a doubt, an intense story for carriages that are more than a place where people sat to move around. Of course, if you want to know the complete story and are interested in the railway world, this is one of those stories that are worth it.
