The Lleida City Council proposes modules for seasonal workers in agricultural areas

The mayor of Lleida, the socialist Fèlix Larrosa, presented this Tuesday to the media his new inclusion model that discards the temporary shelter in the Pardinyes neighborhood, promoted by the previous government (ERC-Junts) and proposes prefabricated modules in agricultural areas to accommodate seasonal workers with employment contracts who do not have housing, in addition to maintaining places for temporary workers in apartments of the municipal company EMAU.

In a first phase, the Paeria will assume the construction of two modules for a total of 48 people, which would be doubled in a second phase, if the model is approved.

The City Council will maintain the reception facility for temporary people, which next year will also be held in Pavilion 3 of Fira de Lleida, but it is already looking for equipment that will improve conditions and service for subsequent years.

The deputy mayor for action and social inclusion, Carlos Enjuanes, has explained that the ideal model for the Paeria government is spaces of about 20 or 25 people "that also allow differentiation by gender and level of demand" and that "the proposal would be the Balàfia school."

The Department of Social Rights, which in the previous mandate had committed 4 million euros to the Pardinyes shelter, announced on Monday that it will analyze whether the new inclusion model presented by the Lleida City Council is compatible with the agreement in force.

The Minister of Social Rights, Carles Campuzano and Fèlix Larrosa, met on Monday in Barcelona to address the future of the residential emergency center in the capital of Segrià.

The new inclusion model which, as the mayor explained, begins its journey with 3.2 million euros, is a model that "avoids the concentration or stigmatization of spaces and large facilities."

According to the City Council, this is a five-year project, which will be deployed in two phases and entails an investment of 11 million euros which, in the words of the deputy mayor for action and social inclusion, becomes a “qualitative leap.” also in terms of prevention.”

Enjuanes has detailed some of the changes that the new model will entail, the impact on the Jericó shelter, which will go from 70 to 90 places and will increase health and occupational services, or the rehabilitation of 31 homes to dedicate them to the Housing First project.
