The interior designer and designer Nina Masó, a luminous woman, dies

Few people have been more resonant than Nina Masó with the adjective “luminous”. In part, because her working life has been that of an ambassador of light designed by others, including herself. In part, because she radiated a powerful light of her own, a halo that has accompanied her on her passionate and untamed journey of life.

In the mid-1980s, when Barcelona was experiencing an explosion of design in the field of furniture, lighting and the bars of what was then called "designed night", three young people who had not yet turned 30 founded, in 1985, Santa

For almost four decades, Santa

Nina Masó studied interior design and veiled her first weapons setting up stands at the Fira, founded a studio with other colleagues and, in 1982, formed a professional and sentimental partner with Gabriel Ordeig (1954-1994). The studio that both promoted became involved in the design scene, participating, to varying degrees, in projects for bars and venues such as Boliche, Cibeles, SíSíSí or Al dente, highly appreciated on that Barcelona night.

The pop and at the same time intimate tone of the Colilla, the work of Carlos Riart, was at the beginning of the list of lamps promoted by Ordeig y Masó, which, already with Santa

Nina Masó, co-responsible in turn for the numerous lamps that bear the generic signature of Santa

As an ambassador of that warm light, Nina Masó was indefatigable. In this sense, her dedication was reflected in the cooperation office that Barcelona City Council set up in Sarajevo at the time of the Balkan war. And, also, in many other places: in the last decade she traveled through Spanish and foreign cities, starring in an itinerant presentation, inspired by La Barraca by Federico García Lorca, in which she spread her concept of light. Those who saw her in this work knew her enthusiasm, her magnetism, her convictions, her frank laughter, her contagious desire to live. Something that she has maintained until a few dates before her death, yesterday Monday, despite the cruel disease that has been depriving her of her abilities. But that will not extinguish in those who knew her the memory of her luminous personality.
