César Azpilicueta, a Chelsea footballer, was taken off on a stretcher and assisted with oxygen after suffering a brutal kick to the face during the match that his team played this afternoon against Southampton. The player was examined for ten minutes on the pitch before leaving and is "conscious" awaiting tests at a hospital.
Subsequently Graham Potter, Chelsea coach, confirmed at a press conference that the player is "conscious in hospital" and that he has spoken with his wife.
The Spanish player suffered a chilling kick to the face in Chelsea's defeat against Southampton and, after being treated for ten minutes by medical assistance, was taken off the field on a stretcher and assisted with oxygen.
"He's in the hospital, the best place he could be. He's conscious and talking to his wife. We were very worried, but now he's where he could best be and they'll be running tests," Potter said. The Spanish player will undergo more tests in the next few hours at the hospital where he is admitted.
