The Government investigates the death of a woman in Jerez as possible gender violence

The Government Delegation against Gender Violence has reported this Tuesday that the murder of a 39-year-old woman in Jerez de la Frontera (Cádiz) on April 28 is being investigated as alleged gender violence and in which arrested the man who gave the notice.

This was reported by the Delegation in a statement on social networks, in which it has detailed that, if confirmed, the number of women murdered by gender violence would rise to 14 in 2023 and 1,198 since 2003 at the national level, while it would be the sixth victim in the community so far this year.

Regarding the incident, on April 28 a man was arrested after he reported the death of a 39-year-old woman of Romanian nationality. The body appeared next to an olive tree in the Lomopardo neighborhood, in Jerez de la Frontera, with some signs that could determine violence.

In statements to journalists, the Government delegate in Andalusia, Pedro Fernández, indicated that the Civil Guard was investigating the relationship between the detainee and the victim, verifying the Romanian nationality of those involved.

In this sense, he explained that the entire environment of the victim is being studied and all the people who may have knowledge of the relationship between them, as well as all the personal situations that may exist around this event.

Regarding the facts, he has reported that the detainee was the one who called the Civil Guard at dawn on April 28 to alert them of the woman's body. Because of this, he was detained so he could be questioned about what happened.
