The Gavà City Council buys a historic building from the Church for 1.1 million euros

Gavà continues to recover historical heritage. After the Unió de Cooperadors, the path to restore the Cultural Center now begins. The City Council has purchased, for a value of 1.1 million euros, the historic Cultural Center building, until now property of the Church. The sale of the property has been signed by the Town Council and the Bisbat of Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

According to the municipal administration in a statement, "Gavà recovers a space very linked to recent history. Generations of neighbors maintain emotional ties with this space, which for 65 years has seen people, entities and activities closely linked to cultural life pass by. , associative, recreational, parochial and ecclesiastical of the city".

Payment for the transaction will be paid within four years. "Finally, the Cultural Center now belongs to the city and this is a great Christmas gift for culture and leisure. The space will once again recover its essence as a primary place for cultural activity, as we remember with nostalgia," has assessed the mayor of Gavà, Gemma Badia.

The Cultural Center has been closed since 2020 due to the poor conservation of the building and the risk of detachment, the City Council has reported. Now the City Council will prepare a use plan and a rehabilitation project will be undertaken. The plot will continue to be used for equipment.

For his part, the vicar general of the Bisbat of Sant Feliu de Llobregat, Josep Maria Domingo, said that it is "a good agreement that aims to give better use to this equipment and to continue the history of so many years."
