The Galician invention to convert a van in an hour

Traveling with the house on your back in motorized vehicles is an alternative that has always had its followers. However, in our country, interest in this type of getaway has grown considerably in recent times. The proposals to carry it out are innumerable, from towable and small-sized options to large motorhomes that do not lack a detail, going through intermediate initiatives such as campers.

Regarding this last segment, it should be noted that numerous automotive manufacturers, aware of this new business possibility, have been selling factory-fitted versions of some of their most successful van models for several years now. But this is by no means the only option available to users who are looking for quick, practical and worry-free camping solutions.

Another of them is the one offered by VanCubic, a company that is based in Vigo and that provides a modular system designed to be inserted in any L2H2 or higher van to turn it into a mobile home. The advantages of this system are multiple, but there are two that will be very attractive for those who already have a compatible van or are thinking of purchasing one (with a minimum box length of 2.70 m and a height of 1.90 m).

The first is that the VanCubic does not require approval when passing the ITV. The system is made up of two modules that slide on wheels inside the van and are resting inside the box, fastened with approved slings. Since they do not need to install any type of fixed anchorage or carry out any additional reforms that affect the structure of the vehicle (not even for water and electricity installations), for legal purposes the modules are considered cargo.

The second notable advantage of this camperization proposal is that it is assembled in just one hour. The two modules are inserted folded from the rear of the van and then unfold to occupy the height of the van. The first module is the one that includes the kitchen (gas) and the bathroom and incorporates two tanks for the sink (fresh water and gray water) and two other tanks for the folding shower (with the same distribution as those for the sink).

It should not be overlooked that, as is usual in campers and motorhomes, the tanks have specific outlets through tubes for their drainage out of the vehicle. The WC is a portable unit that is not attached to any drain. The VanCubic system integrates an Ecoflow portable battery with an inverter, a combination sufficient to run the interior lighting, the water pump and to plug in small appliances or electronic devices.

It is possible to recharge said battery with the vehicle's cigarette lighter while driving, also in any external 230V socket or by means of portable solar panels. The second module that integrates this camperization is the one that includes the living room-bedroom. It has a sofa that can be converted into a 1.90 m x 1.20 m bed and, if necessary, it also incorporates a second additional bunk bed that can be up to 1.80 m x 0.80 m.

The company offers three variations of its camper system (each with a maximum weight of 700 kg) with different characteristics, called VanCubic Aventura, VanCubic Love and VanCubic Premium. In addition, optional elements can be added to achieve greater comfort and customization.

If you are interested in this formula to convert your van into a mobile home, you should know that its price starts at 15,990 euros. You can see everything that this proposal offers in the video that accompanies this article.
