From the explosion of the real estate bubble to the current escalation in prices of basic products through the covid pandemic. The Gran Recapte, the large food collection organized by the Banc dels Aliments, reaches its fifteenth edition this year.
During all this time, different economic crises have been chained, but the objective is the same: to help people in poverty. And to achieve this, once again, volunteers are needed who, among other tasks, encourage donations, which can now be registered through the website www.granrecapte.com.
According to the organization's estimate this Wednesday, some 18,000 volunteers will be needed to make the Great Recapte possible, which will be held between November 24 and 30. Its main function will be to promote donations in supermarkets on the 24th and 25th.
“We have verified that, at those collection points with more volunteers, donations increase,” certified Lluís Fatjó-Vilas, representative of the four food banks in Catalonia. They will also be in charge of classifying the material obtained in two warehouses provided by the logistics activities area of the Port of Barcelona.
“The Great Recapte has established itself as one of the most important citizen movements of solidarity action,” considered Fatjó-Vilas. Last year, essential goods worth 6.3 million euros were obtained.
As already happened in 2022, the Great Recapte will once again be mixed, combining food contributions in supermarkets with financial donations through the Bizum application or through the solidarity event website.
