The Barcelona neighborhood of Besòs already boasts a large mural dedicated to its kids. This is a preview of a plan promoted by the City Council whose main objective is, through urban art, to strengthen pride and the feeling of belonging in one of the most humble corners of the metropolitan area.
Substandard housing, poverty, drugs... The problems of Besòs are many, but what most caught the attention of Slim Safont, a 27-year-old artist from Berga, one of the most recognized muralists of the moment beyond our borders, was how so many children from so many backgrounds coexist in harmony in the public space. The children of Besòs are a source of pride in this neighbourhood, and now a work of art reflects it. In this sense, as Arcadi Poch, one of the curators of the initiative, points out, urban art can become a tool that contributes to social transformation.
