The accused of killing his roommate in Bilbao admits that he stabbed him several times

The accused of killing his roommate in Bilbao in the fall of 2021 has acknowledged that he stabbed him several times to cause his death and, subsequently, left the house, leaving the victim on the ground.

The trial, with a popular jury, began this Monday at the Provincial Court of Bizkaia. The Prosecutor asks for the defendant 19 years in prison for murder with treachery, with the aggravating circumstance of recidivism, and the mitigating circumstance of mental anomaly or alteration.

For its part, the private prosecution, which represents a brother of the victim, claims 21 years in prison by adding cruelty, while the defendant's defense requests the acquittal of his defendant. The defendant has served a sentence of 9 and a half years in prison for manslaughter, which was imposed on him by the Court of Madrid.

During the first session of the oral hearing, the accused has admitted, to questions from the Prosecutor's Office, that he had an argument with his roommate, took a knife and fork, and confronted him. A witness has assured that the discussion was motivated by a debt of 20 euros that the victim maintained and that the accused claimed.

The defendant has admitted that he stabbed the victim several times with the intention of killing him and that, when she was on the ground, he left the house and was later arrested by the Ertzaintza. This is the first time that the defendant testifies, since he refused to do so when he was arrested and during the investigation of the case.
