The accident in Leganés in which three young people died was caused by jumping the traffic light

Jumping a red light is the main hypothesis behind the fatal accident last Saturday on the M-406 highway, near the Vereda de los Estudiantes neighborhood, in the municipality of Leganés, which left three young people dead. deceased and two others seriously injured.

These five boys - between 17 and 21 years old - were traveling around 9:30 a.m. last Saturday in a Seat Ibiza that, according to initial investigations, ran a red light at kilometer 9 and crashed into a van. and an intercity bus that circulated on this road.

After the collision with a van that was crossing the road, the car jumped the median and, after traveling several meters uncontrolled, it ended up colliding with an intercity bus that was traveling without passengers in the opposite direction, according to what the first witnesses of the accident explained to the Civil Guard. .

The deceased are the pilot and co-pilot of the vehicle, both 20 years old, and a 17-year-old minor who was traveling in the back of the car, while the other two injured, who were also out in the back, aged 19 and 21 years, continue with a "very serious prognosis" in the ICU of the Doce de Octubre Hospital, according to sources from the hospital.

The accident occurred around 9:30 a.m. this Sunday on the section of the M-406 that connects the towns of Getafe and Leganés, at the intersection with Rey Pastor street, where a racket and a traffic light are located.

Firefighters from the Community of Madrid and members of Summa 112 traveled to the scene, and upon their arrival confirmed the death of the driver and co-pilot of the car in which the five young people were traveling, who according to municipal sources are not residents of the town.

The paramedics attended to the three occupants of the back seats, all of them in very serious condition. One of them was transferred in cardiorespiratory arrest to the Getafe Hospital, where he finally died, and the other two to Doce de Octubre.

Likewise, they treated the driver of the van for an anxiety crisis, who was transferred to Severo Ochoa in Leganés, and the driver of the bus who was without passengers and was discharged at the scene.

Currently, on this two-lane road, you can travel at 90 km/h, although residents of the area have been denouncing the risk for years when crossing this road, even through a pedestrian crossing regulated by a traffic light, due to the high speed. of the cars.

It is the same road that the Getafe City Council has been asking the Community of Madrid for months to hand over its management to convert it into an urban road and, thereby, reduce the speed of traffic and avoid accidents.
