Ten tons of food not suitable for consumption intervene in Manises

The Civil Guard has intervened in the Valencian town of Manises ten tons of food products labeled in a non-European language and without respecting the required cold measures, with the risk to human health that entails.

The Benemérita agents have carried out the inspection in a retail food center of products for human consumption together with official control agents from the Ministry of Health of the Generalitat in the 'La Cova' industrial estate in Manises.

The labels were only in a non-European language, which prevents the consumer from correctly choosing the products they consume, and they lacked information on allergens, two requirements required by current legislation.

In total, 42 references have been immobilized due to the existence or reasonable suspicion of immediate and extraordinary risk to public health, the Civil Guard has reported.

It was also found that the establishment was carrying out the activities of storage, multipurpose distribution and packaging of products of plant origin, refrigerated storage and frozen storage of products of animal origin, all of them for human consumption, without authorization from the general health registry of companies (RGSEAA).

In accordance with the regulations, the activities described cannot be carried out without the corresponding conditional health authorization.

The establishment's freezing chamber has been sealed as a precautionary measure until administrative authorization is granted, if applicable.

Furthermore, one of the refrigeration chambers that housed products for human consumption of plant and animal origin was not in operation, making its consumption inadvisable, so the food remained inside, seized for later destruction.

There were also products whose expiration and best-before dates had expired.

Finally, 99 references of products for human consumption of the 300 inspected have been seized, being packaged products such as: fresh and frozen meats, meat preparations, meat products, frozen fish, flour derivatives, cookies, horticultural products, candies, chewing gum. and candy, processed egg and frozen seafood.

All infractions detected have been notified to the Ministry of Health.
