Some nuns from Malaga offer prayers in exchange for donations of cleaning products

The Little Sisters of the Poor in Malaga have launched a request for help due to the lack of cleaning and hygiene products they have in their home and have devised a formula to put an end to this situation: they offer prayers to those who donate items such as paper toilet, detergent or soap.

"We are going through the crisis and at this moment there is more difficulty; things are ending, because the laundry is daily and it is consumed a lot," explains the person in charge of the house of the Little Sisters of the Poor in Malaga, Sister María Dolores Pérez, that highlights how the city has turned to them and "is more than generous".

The congregation, which manages a residence with some sixty poor or low-income elderly people, asks for items such as toilet paper, gel, liquid and powder detergent, and fabric softener, although it also accepts financial donations. And it is that the center, explains the nun, needs to invest in the change or repair of some equipment or appliances, such as air conditioning or the capacitor bank, which "has already burned and is at risk of fire."

"We have a poor old people's home with 62 residents and we are seven little sisters who assist them with salaried staff," explains the person in charge of the center, who clarifies that this is their "primary work", in addition to going out to ask, since they only live of the donations. "They are at home, but we are at their service. They come here for different circumstances, it may be that they do not have family or resources," she points out.

To collect as many products as possible, the nuns have gone out into the streets and have set up a table at the doors of the asylum, on Calle Héroe de Sostoa, where citizens can leave their donations. In return, they offer them a prayer and also accept donations via bank transfer and bizum.

"We have been there for more than three days and they are giving us a pleasant surprise because things are coming non-stop from morning to night. The people of Malaga have always been very supportive and have shared the hardships we have at this time," says Sister María Dolores. Perez.

The sister not only appreciates the contribution of the people of Malaga who pass through there to help, but also citizens from other parts of Spain, such as the Canary Islands, Bilbao, Madrid or Barcelona, who do their bit from afar. "We promise to pray for everyone who helps us, it is our way of giving thanks," concludes the nun.
