Sánchez conveys to Guterres his support for the UN to achieve peace in Ukraine

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has conveyed this Monday to the Secretary General of the UN, António Guterres, Spain's full support for this organization to try to achieve peace in Ukraine.

Sánchez met with Guterres at the Moncloa Palace on the occasion of the trip to Spain by the head of the United Nations to receive the Carlos V Award from the king.

The eve of this act, which will be held in the Yuste monastery in Cáceres, the Chief Executive and Guterres have analyzed various international policy issues and global challenges to be faced. "I have conveyed to Antonio Guterres our support to put an end to the Russian aggression in Ukraine, achieve a just and lasting peace and end food insecurity," Sánchez wrote on social networks.

In addition, I have reiterated Spain's commitment to the next Sustainable Development Summit, which will be held next September, coinciding with the semester of the Spanish presidency of the European Union.

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Sánchez had the opportunity to comment on the development of his visit to China during which he met with President Xi Jinping and before whom he defended that any peace proposal must take into account the proposals of the country's president , Volodimir Zelensky.

For his part, Guterres has been able to explain his expectations regarding the possible extension of the agreement on the export of Ukrainian cereals after he sent a letter to the president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, proposing its continuation.

The situation in Western Sahara, Sudan, Libya, the Middle East and Haiti was also addressed in the meeting between Sánchez and the UN Secretary General, according to what the Government has reported.

Tonight Guterres will attend a dinner offered by the king to which personalities such as the President and Prime Minister of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa and António Costa, respectively, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, have been invited.

All of them will be present on Tuesday, coinciding with Europe Day, at the Monastery of Yuste in the act of delivery by Felipe VI of the Carlos V award to Guterres, an award that recognizes the work in favor of the European spirit
