Sleepless nights grant a truce

Catalonia left behind a week of extremely high temperatures yesterday which, combined with strong humidity, especially in the coastal towns, have made it a practically impossible goal to fall asleep. Faced with this situation, which threatens to normalize and become more frequent, the people of Barcelona and the thousands of tourists who visit the city at this time have tried, with little luck, to combat the unbearable heat by resorting to all kinds of solutions, as put revealed these images by photojournalist Ignacio Rodríguez.

In the Catalan capital, as in many other coastal cities, night bathing has become a trend despite the fact that seawater temperatures have broken all-time records and have skyrocketed to 28.5 degrees.

The ice cream parlors have also been very busy. Proof of this is the image that heads this information and that was captured in an establishment on Rambla Catalunya.

On the other hand, many terraces of bars and restaurants, on other occasions a lifeline for this sector, have suffered the desertifying effects of this heat wave.

The air conditioning of subways and buses has been another of the refreshing alternatives of this heatwave period, as during the daytime what has been known for some time now as climate shelters, whether they are public facilities or shopping centers.
