The Department of Education has published today in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya (DOGC) the order that establishes the calendar for the next academic year 2023-2024 and that partially includes some of the recommendations made by the School Council while rejecting others . The opinion is perceptive but not binding.
Thus, the star measure is the advancement of the school year to the first week of September, not only for this next course, which will be on September 6, 2023, but also establishes as a rule for the following courses that it will be the fourth working day of September. The course is located in the high range of school days allowed by the Catalan education law.
These are the most important dates, among which are not included the holidays of free disposition for the educational center or the festivities of the town.
September 6: start of classes in infant education (0-3 years), in rural schools and nurseries of the Generalitat, in infant education (3-6), in primary education, in compulsory secondary education and in the training cycles of basic professional training.
September 12: start of classes in the baccalaureate, in intermediate and advanced vocational training cycles, in vocational training specialization courses, in specific training itineraries, in training and insertion programs, in the Specific training course for access to intermediate level cycles, in the preparation course for incorporation into higher level training cycles, and to medium and higher level training cycles in plastic arts and design and performing arts.
Before September 18: start of classes for artistic education under the special regime, professional degrees in music and dance, sports education, and education in adult training centers and classrooms.
Before September 25: start of classes in official language schools.
From December 21, 2023 to January 7, 2024: Christmas holidays.
From March 23 to April 1, 2024: Easter holidays.
June 21, 2024: classes end in the second cycle of early childhood education, in primary education, in compulsory secondary education, in the first year of high school and in basic vocational training.
School activities in early childhood education (0-3 years) in nursery schools owned by the Generalitat de Catalunya (some 42 in total) end on the last working day of June.
The rest of the teachings finish the course according to their academic programming.
Before June 15: The extraordinary baccalaureate tests will be carried out from the second week of June, so that they have finished no later than June 15. Also, the activities of evaluation of the students of the last course of formative cycles of intermediate degree of professional formation.
The extraordinary evaluation activities of the training cycles of sports education and medium-level plastic arts and design and, where appropriate, of the specific training courses for access to the training cycles must be scheduled during the first three working days of September.
Those days determined by the Department of Business and Labor and the two local holidays are considered holidays. In the event that the local holidays coincide with a public holiday, the schools may add them to the freely available ones established in the corresponding school year.
Schools and institutes have four freely available holidays that must be equally distributed among the three quarters, they cannot coincide with the beginning and end of the course or the Christmas or Easter periods.
Exceptionally, the territorial services may authorize the proposal by the management of the centers to establish consecutive days of free disposition in the same quarter. In this case, the prior agreement of the school council of the center is necessary.
